Hot work tool steel
Hot work tool steels are intended for tooling components exposed to cyclic thermal and mechanical loads at elevated operating temperatures.
Their alloying concept and heat treatment response provide a controlled combination of hot hardness, toughness, tempering resistance, thermal fatigue resistance, and resistance to heat checking.
The steels are suitable for repeated heating and cooling cycles as well as high-pressure and impact loading conditions encountered in hot forming operations.
Typical applications include die casting dies, forging tools, extrusion tools, hot shears, mandrels, and other thermally loaded tooling components.
