Nitriding steel

Nitriding steels are intended for components requiring high surface hardness, wear resistance, and improved fatigue performance while maintaining a tough and strong core.

Their alloying concept, typically based on chromium, molybdenum, aluminum, or vanadium additions, promotes the formation of stable nitrides during thermochemical treatment.

The steels provide good hardenability and are specifically designed for nitriding processes with limited dimensional distortion.

Typical applications include gears, shafts, spindles, crank components, dies, and other highly loaded mechanical parts.
