Surface-hardening steel

Surface-hardening steels are intended for components requiring a locally hardened, wear-resistant surface combined with a tough and strong core.

Their medium-carbon composition enables induction or flame hardening processes without the need for carburizing or other thermochemical treatments.

The steels provide good machinability and controlled hardening response for components subjected to surface wear, contact stress, and cyclic mechanical loading.

Typical applications include shafts, gears, rollers, guide elements, rails, and other mechanically loaded machine components.
