Our approach to Green Steel

Štore Green Steel is based on steel production routes and processing technologies designed to support efficient utilization of raw materials, energy resources, and downstream manufacturing operations.

Our approach combines electric arc furnace steelmaking, recycled steel scrap utilization, process efficiency, and durable engineering steel applications to support lower-carbon steel production for demanding industrial and automotive applications.

#1 Electric arc furnace utilisation

At Štore Steel, we produce steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled steel scrap as the primary raw material input.

Unlike conventional blast furnace production routes, which are primarily based on iron ore and coke, EAF steel production utilizes electrical energy for melting recycled metallic materials.

According to the World Steel Association, blast furnace production currently represents approximately 70% of global steel production and generates around 2,320 kg of CO₂ per tonne of steel produced, while EAF production generates approximately 670 kg of CO₂ per tonne.

The graph illustrates the CO₂ emissions associated with the production of one tonne of steel using a blast furnace and an electric arc furnace (EAF).

Depending on the production condition and processing route, the CO₂ footprint of selected Štore Steel products, such as hot rolled and heat treated bars, can be significantly lower than global average steel production values.

#2 Using 100% recycled steel scrap

Recycled steel scrap represents the primary raw material source within our EAF steel production process.

By utilizing recycled metallic input instead of iron ore-based production routes, we support efficient material utilization and reduced dependence on primary raw material extraction.

#3 Continuous process efficiency enhancement

Continuous process optimization represents an important part of our approach to lower-carbon steel production.

We continuously invest in modernisation of production equipment, process control, and energy-efficient technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency throughout the steelmaking and rolling process.

Particular focus is placed on reducing electrical energy and natural gas consumption per tonne of steel produced while maintaining the required product quality.

Efficient material utilisation and optimised production parameters additionally support reduced processing losses throughout the manufacturing process.

#4 EXEM steel for resource-efficient machining

At Štore Steel, we have developed the proprietary EXEM steel brand specifically for improved machinability and resource-efficient downstream processing.

Through a specially designed metallurgical and production process, EXEM steels enable lower cutting forces, improved chip formation, and reduced tool wear during machining operations.

Improved machinability supports lower electricity consumption, shorter production cycles, and more efficient processing in high-volume manufacturing environments.

#5 Responsible manufacturing practices

We continuously develop production practices aimed at supporting efficient resource utilization, process transparency, and reliable manufacturing performance.

Material traceability, inspection documentation, and controlled production procedures support consistent quality throughout the steelmaking and rolling process.

Production activities are additionally supported by implemented quality, environmental, and energy management systems aligned with internationally recognized industrial standards.

#6 Certifications and implemented standards

Our production and management processes are supported by internationally recognized standards related to quality management, environmental management, and energy efficiency.

These systems support controlled production processes, traceability, and continuous operational improvement throughout the manufacturing chain.

Our management systems are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and IATF 16949:2016, demonstrating our commitment to responsible manufacturing.
